Extension of temporary residence for foreigners in Vietnam (Immigration Division of provincial police)

+ In person: Submit the application directly at the headquarters of the Immigration Divison of the Provincial Police.
+ Online: Apply online via the National Public Service Portal or Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security.
+ Postal service: submit additional documents via the postal service according to the notice of the Immigration Division of the Provincial Police on the National Public Service Portal or Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security (if any).
Step 1: Prepare documents according to the provisions of the law.
Step 2:
* Submit the application directly during the office hours on weekdays at the Immigration Division of the Provincial Police or submit the application via the National Public Service Portal or Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security and send additional documents via the public portal service according to the notice of the Immigration Division of the Provincial Police on Public Service Portal (if any).
* Dossier receiving officers shall check the legality and content of dossier:
+ If the application is sufficient and valid, then issue a receipt to the applicants, request the applicants to pay fee; fee collector hand over the receipt of payment to the applicant or notify the applicants on the National Public Service Portal or Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security so the applicant for extension of temporary residence can pay online and get electronical receipts.
+ If the dossier is incomplete or invalid, instruct the applicants or notify on National Public Service Portal or the Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security for the applicants to complete their application.
+ If the application is not eligible, the application will not be accepted, reply in writing or notify on the National Public Service Portal or the Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Securit, and clearly state the reason.
* In case of online application, the applicants may request to receive results via the portal service and must pay for the delivery service.
* Time to receive documents: From Monday to Saturday morning (except New Year’s Day and public holidays).
Step 3: Receiving the result:
+ The applicants for temporary residence extension will directly receive the results at the Immigration Division of the Provincial Police. When coming to get result, bring the receipt for examination and comparison. Those, who request to receive results via the postal service, follow the instructions of the portal service provider.
+ In case of disapproval of temporary residence extension, reply in writing or notify the applicant on National Public Service Portal or Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security, clearly stating the reason.
+ Time to return result: From Monday to Friday every week (except New Year’s Day and public holidays).

+ Application form for issuance, supplementation, amendment of visa and extension of temporary residence (Form NA5).
+ Passport or valid international travel documents of foreigners.
In case of online application, the passport or international travel document of the foreigners must be sent via the portal service to the receiving agency; The other contents of the dossiers must be electronically authenticated in accordance with the regulations, if not, the applicant shall send the application to the receiving agency via postal service.
+ Agencies or organizations that request for granting, supplementation, amendment of visas or extension of temporary residence for foreigners or Vietnamese holding foreign passports already have dossiers as prescribed in Clause 2, Article 16 of the Law on Entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam at Immigration Division of the centrally-run Provincial or Municipal Police.
+ Foreigners, Vietnamese people holding foreign passports with valid passports, visas (except for cases of visa exemption), temporary residence certificates issued by Vietnamese competent authorities, residing in Vietnam and not in the category of “not allow to enter Vietnam” or “temporary suspension from exit”.
+ Vietnamese citizens applying for the grant, supplementation, amendment of visas or extension of temporary residence for foreigners, Vietnamese holding foreign passports must be those who have the relationship like grandfather, grandmother, father, mother, wife, husband, children , brothers, sisters, siblings of foreigners, Vietnamese people holding foreign passports (show proof of relationship).
+ The Law on Foreigners’ entry into, exit from, transit through and residence in Vietnam (Law No. 47/2014/QH13 dated June 16, 2014); was amended and supplemented in 2019 (Law No. 51/2019 /QH14 dated November 25, 2019).
+ Circular No. 04/2015/TT-BCA, dated January 5, 2015 of the Ministry of Public Security regulating the form of documents relating to the entry, exit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam.
+ Circular No. 25/2021/TT-BTC dated April 7, 2021 of the Ministry of Finance regulating the collection, payment, management and use of fees and charges in the field of exit, entry, transit and residence in Vietnam
